Convert person to company
Allow me to change a record from a person to a company. When I import records, especially from Twitter, it brings them in as people, but many of them are companies or organizations, some of whom are listed in Nimble.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for your feedback!
I used the word "may" in my comment because it is not on the current product roadmap for 2014, which is why the issue is still listed as "Under Review".
We prioritize the requests on this forum with a top-down approach. We recently added Two Way Contacts Sync, Android is coming out the end of September, and we're in the midst of fixing the calendar. This request is lower on the totem pole, unfortunately, which is why we haven't fixed it yet.
We definitely see the value in giving users the ability to convert a Company to a Person and vice versa, and we intend to add it to Nimble, but only when we have the time to slot it into our product roadmap.
With regards to your use-case with Dell - It seems like you want to track engagements, reminders, and other Nimble functions on both the company and the related Person is a different feature than the one on this thread, converting a company record to a person record.
If I'm misunderstanding your request, feel free to send me a line at joseph@nimble.com and I'll be happy to talk directly about the use-case and show it to my product team.
Cheers,
Joseph

I'm worried that the reason this needs to be done is misunderstood by Nimble. Referring to Joseph's reply to Donna, "Twitter is different from Facebook where they don't differentiate between individual and company profiles, therefore, we don't have the ability to differentiate between the two on our import over their API."
What we're pointing out is that since that's broken, it makes the contact database fairly worthless when people have thousands of records. People aren't companies and vice versa. I don't expect Nimble has any user who consider the cause of the poor data quality to be resolve; what we're asking for is at the very least, a way for us to fix it.
You may still add the ability to fix it? Could you shed some light on why you may not?? This doesn't even strike me as a user request, it's a major flaw and as Donna points out, the very reason why so many users will abandon Nimble. No one wants a platform like this that can't distinguish between the people whom we're trying to remain engaged with and the companies (perhaps many companies) with which they work, we have different engagement expectations, and with which we have different measure of importance.
That is to say, I know 100 people at Dell; a dozen of those are important; Dell isn't important to me at all; but my repeat engagement with any of those dozen important contacts serves to keep me engaged with Company Dell, without making Dell important and causing you to alert me at his point, should it ever become more important to me. But the reason it's even more important... people move jobs. Many (an exponentially increasing number) work for many companies. So my rankings and engagement needs to be tracked both with regard to the individual and the place of business both as they are related and independently. Otherwise, this loses a tremendous amount of value - those 12 important contacts leave Dell, or they all have 2 jobs, some with which the other companies are important. You're forcing us to manage every contact as one to one and treat companies as people - they aren't.
Sorry for the rant... I'm desperate to have a truly capable CRM and contact automation platform and I can't conceive of how you aren't prioritizing this over little fixes and tweaks that seem to get your attention. I'd love to understand what you're thinking.

Thank you for your feedback, Donna.
Twitter is different from Facebook where they don't differentiate between individual and company profiles, therefore, we don't have the ability to differentiate between the two on our import over their API.
We still may add the ability to convert someone to a company, but this was not a priority at the time it was declined. This is now reopened for users to vote on it.

Glad I used the trial - not being able to sort people and company tweets is pretty much a deal breaker. The ability to import and organize TW accounts easily is the biggest selling feature of Nimble and what made it appealing against the competition- or so I thought. Not so if all you get is a mess of duplicate accounts for people and companies.

I vote for this too...

Hi Paul,
We hope to implement most of the features that our large user base votes for, but we prioritize these features based on the number of votes.
As this function receives more votes, it will move up in priority.
Best,
Joseph

Wow. Almost two years after this was submitted, all we have from Nimble is, "we do not have plans to offer the converting of People to Companies or vice-versa," in spite of the votes and comments that it doesn't make sense.
Every company has a twitter profile. I've imported thousands of followers, companies, that now pollute my Contact database with thousands of companies. My Today's Top Contacts is rendered annoying as I get Companies that I can't remove without saying they are important or not; they are neither, they are companies, not contacts.
I don't want to search for company social profiles to attach to the correct contacts, I want to fix my contact database to have contacts.

It is crazy that you don't offer this convert. It's essential to make using Nimble much easier and less hassle. If you have a LOT of twitter followers it would take weeks for someone to MANUALLY change all the companies brought in as person's to be a company and since your software is ALL about integrating social media I would have thought this is an essential feature that should be provided. Thank you

This would be very helpful.

how is this not a feature?

I hope this is implemented, the automatic import from social media (particularly twitter) makes this critical for those of us who are heavy social media users...

I'll add my voice to the dissenters saying we need a way to convert contacts to companies. I've got 100s that fall in this category. Without this I'm going to a)waste hours and hours of my life manually converting b) just have a messed up database c) get frustrated and find something else.
I'd understand it better if it was in the roadmap somewhere but to just say "no" seems silly to me.

This feature is really important!!! Without it, the best of Nimble is lost. I have thousands of contacts that need to be converted into companies and vice versa. More than a year has passed since it was requested and the feature is still missing.

currently twitter imports as a person when mostly it is companies, without this function you have to delete the contact and enter it manually.
Seems a bit silly to me

I agree with others below. If I import a contact from Twitter, they are invariably a company but they end up created as a contact which makes no sense.
Nimble, please reconsider.

Hi, The fact that I can´t vote on this means functionality available?Best

This would be extremely helpful. Out of 100 Twitter imports, 80 of them were companies. Without this feature the import was counter productive.
