Expand Custom Field Types
Critical need for other field types such as: list (to assign values), date, decimal, Nimble user, number, and yes/no to be added to the custom fields. Also provide multi-value selection, such as a list field of Services can have a value of ‘installation’, the user adds another Service value such as ‘maintenance’. This multi-value will be able to be searched upon separately.
New release of Custom field support was for text (single and multi-line fields). The FAQ clarified that Custom fields cannot be added to the existing: "Contact Info" or "Other" tab in your contact records.

I would like to have the ability to tag more than one within a drop down menu. For instance I created a field trailer type and within the drop down I put in van, reefer, deck, livestock and I would like to be able to flag more than one yet I am limited to only flagging one unless i create a free form field or more than one field multiple times.

@Lon - Nimble should have custom Deal fields in their core product and there should be a full range of field types available, however there has been no progress on either in the 2 years since they were first requested.
I implemented the Tai.st addon for custom fields in Deals 2 days ago and encountered a couple of minor issues, which I reported and they have been fixed - a very impressive response from Anton and his team. From my conversations with them, it is clear that this is just Version 1 of the add on and that it will be further refined based on user feedback. I strongly recommend that you and other Nimble users who are waiting for these features engage with the Tai.st team and let them know what features you need.

@Lon, what field types do you need?
We have just updated our addon - now you can add multiple fields to Deals: http://www.tai.st/addons/taist-nimble-deal-custom-fields:
Now only "list" fields are supported, and we will add "text" fields soon, following with other types.

The fact that you have this ability in existing fields would imply to me that your staff knows how to implement it. Being able to add fields that are appended can greatly increase the power of your product. In our case, we are forced to use a description field from the already existing fields and not be able to associate the field to the associated fields we have created significantly lessens its use, so we would highly recommend this feature be added to your product. The third-party solution is far too limited for our purpose.

Hi all, we are Taist - a third-party platform that allows to extend cloud applications with "addons", and we have created the first version of a custom fields for Nimble. Now it implements "Industry" field for Deals.
Please have a look and try it here: http://www.tai.st/addons/taist-nimble-deal-custom-fields. It just works out of the box - when you activate it from our website, a new field appears in Nimble deals. We use browser extension for that.
We are now gathering ideas on how to further extend the custom fields functionality for Nimble, so please post your specific needs and use-cases here or in comments to the addon.

Hum, I have been reviewing this tool for use in our small company, but the inability to add picklists and dates to custom fields may well be a deal killer for me. Any updates on implementation of the reasonable requests made below?

This is a very weak aspect to Nimble. We have very organised contact data by contact type and lead source. These elements did not flow in during the import, nor were added as tags. It seems to me that Nimble is designed for a 1 user organisation - not for structured professional sales teams.

Absolutely, this is needed! In general Nimble is too prescriptive about how it will be used. It has fantastic potential, but needs to be opened up to users to configure.

Support for date type in custom fields is definitely a must-have!

To evolve, Nimble needs to be able to offer customised versions of the product to different verticals, Real Estate, Financial Services, etc., etc. It is impossible to do this as things stand due to the lack of a full set of custom fields. The sooner custom fields are available the quicker Nimble can be seen as a proper CRM rather than a nice way to track social network contacts and email. This is core functionality, the field types must be available in the underlying database, surely it is not a major task to make them available in the application itself?

At the very least I would like to see Multiselect dropdowns (so you can select multiple entries for a select box).
One example use case is recording which conferences a delegate has been to. There is no sensible way to do this currently, other than using tags, which is very messy and not, IMHO, an appropriate use of tagging.

I am very disappointed to hear this and think it is a bad decision. The lack of a full set of custom field types means that Nimble cannot be customised to the extent that it needs to be if it is to be a true CRM system and not just a nice way to manage your social media and email.
Almost by definition the most important fields in a database to the user (beyond the basic contact information) are the custom fields - because these are the fields that the user has selected to add themselves and these are the fields which contain the unique, business specific information which makes a CRM system really useful to its users.
I have no idea what your development resource availability is like, but if I was making a decision based on commercial factors I would be fast tracking this feature rather than putting it on the long finger. Bad decision!!

I would like to be able to track the date each of our software trial started (like you do), the date a demonstration was given and the date a quote was issued. I would also like to be able to search on those fields with a date range.

Need to be able to add a custom field which references existing contacts or companies. This is a standard feature in every other CRM I've used, and is super useful for tracking relationships: corporate hierarchy, referrals, etc.

Also add custom Lead Sources and Types!

Yes, need to be able to search by the information in custom fields.

Would also be good to be able to change the width of a custom field / make them full width. (You can drag the window to make it larger when you are entering text but it reverts to the standard width when you save).

Critical to add Pick list, multi-select Pick list and Checkbox options

Field types will evolve over time by demand, I am sure, but to help prioritize our need from the request above, a 'list' field type is critical, with multi-value capability, and the ability to import to custom fields and fields in the 'Other' tab. In addition, viewing these tags in the selection dropdown in Advanced Search would be my priority as well.
