   I was speaking to a Car Dealer a few days ago and he was telling me that two major dealerships have now joined what they are terming the "Martin Lewis Effect" in banning the acceptance of credit cards in any transactions for their car sales. A considerable number of independents had already done this following what they describe as ludicrous 'hand back' of cars after years of use with following decisions seeming to favour the punter rather than the dealer. Of course this is one side of the story. He hasn't accepted CC for over a year now and has not seen any downturn in trade. Might be old news but I had not heard it before.

5. Racing Game For Kids

   I bought my 7 year old his first PC for Christmas and he's looking to play a racing car game (after all, he does want to be a racing car driver when he grows up so it's good practice, right?) - with it being the Winter Sale it's probably a good time to pick one up at a more reasonable price.

   But I don't play racing games and have no idea what would be most suitable for a kid of his age. From the little I've seen over the years, racing games have tended more towards the technical than motor-control/twitchy game-play.

   I'd appreciate any suggestions and some information on what the suggested games actually involve - i.e. is it more light-hearted and gamey like say Mario Kart, or is it more technical and physics simulation based like the more recent Need For Speed type games.

6. Lip injections and saxophone playing??

   I am a private saxophone teacher.

   I have an adult student who has been with me almost two years now. She is both attractive and wealthy. So she comes into her lesson today with lip injections. As you can imagine, they bruised and hurt when she played.

   Has anyone dealt with this before, should I be concerned? Or is it just going to hurt the first week? I both don’t want her to hurt herself playing or to ruin the goal of the injection by it getting bruised.

   This is very new territory for me. Thanks for any info!

8. Back to business!

   Hi guys!
   I'm excited to be getting back to home-brewing, I've been out of the game for a couple of years as life got in the way, my son came along and I had amassed a ridiculous amount of brewing gear that took over the garage! I had some hits and misses with brews previously, built a few things like "The MaltMother" and a CFC, but ultimately struggled with a lack of space to clean all the brewing gear and since moving back to Wolverhampton (hard water) from Birmingham (soft water), struggled to produce decent pale beers (could make a good stout though!). I had bought John Palmer's water treatment book but took the decision that I didn't have time to concentrate on beer. I ended up with three brewing systems I built, fermenters everywhere, six corny kegs, a keezer, a kegerator, 4 beer taps etc and just had a total clearout.

   So, this time round, I promised myself it would be different. No more endless purchasing of gear. Just concentrate on the basics. Utility sink in the garage now so cleaning is much easier. I started with converting a free Thermos cooler into a mashtun (which holds temps better than anything else I've used before), a 50 litre Bergland stock pot and a plastic fermenter. Splashed out on a syphon. No going crazy. All I need is my fishtank heater and a bucket of water to hold temps. Saw an Angram beer engine going cheap locally. Maybe a polypin setup, I thought? That'll do me. A few bottles maybe.

   Well, two brews in and its happened again. I've acquired a True Coca-Cola fridge, a Beko fridge, Elegance beer tap, ODL regulator, 4 way CO2 manifold, two AEB corny kegs, built a twin coil immersion chiller (nicknamed "the Tornado"), a 35L Fermentasaurus snubnose, Inkbird ITC-308 for the True fermentation fridge and currently rebuilding my control box with an Inkbird ITC-100VH to control my two element boil kettle. Water sample sent to Phoenix Analytical for testing. Next four brews lined up (Mosaic pale, Honey ale, Kolsch, Belgian Tripel).

   I'm all in fellas. I'm a decent spunding valve away from completion, if anyone has a recommendation?

9. Amazon Web Services (AWS) Activities are now in Public Preview

   Thanks for reaching out to us. If I understand correctly, you are facing issue while calling the GetObject activity. And you are using AccessKey/SecretKey combination to authenticate against AWS.

   Could you please let us know what permissions/policies the user corresponding to AccessKey has? To illustrate further, GetObject makes following calls to fetch various metadata of an object:

   GetObjectMetadataAsync
   
   GetBucketLocationAsync
   
   GetObjectTaggingAsync
   
   ListVersionsAsync
   

   So the user should have either Full Access on S3 operations or combination of individual permissions for above operations.

11. Any Good iOS Diag ODB Apps??

    Any good iOS apps for use with an ODB scan-tool? Picked up a UniCarScan USCI-2000 from Germany since it is a main ODB recommended for use with Bimmercode, thinking to use it with Bimmerlink. Come to find that all Bimmerlink supports on i3 are a few error message resets, and nothing else. No diagnostics, no batter reg. so pretty useless.

12. Compatibility with LinkedIn Sales Navigator

    Nimble Prospector doesn't have compatibility with LISN. Please change this to speed up the process of prospecting. And another additional feature I would love to see is adding multiple contacts at once. Like all of the contacts on a page at once, like ZoomInfo does. Then we won't have to go 1 by 1.

14. Add a 'Task Manager' dashboard widget to see all team contacts in workflows & deals without an upcoming task/event scheduled

    Create a widget on the dashboard that can allow us to see, at a glance, any and all contacts in existing workflows and deals that have no upcoming task/activity scheduled. This way we know who is in-process but not being followed up with and no one slips through the cracks.

15. Tabbing between software causes crash

    Hi All,

     

    I'm having a recurring problem that is causing a major headache and I would be very grateful for any advice.

     

    For your reference, details of my system below

    Media Composer 2021.6.0

    OS X 11.4

    2.9ghz 6-Core

    32GB DDR4 RAM

    Radeon Pro 560x 4GB

    (My preference woud have been not to upgrade to Big Sur but unfortunately this system came pre-loaded with it. So downgrading to a previous version of OSX is possible but a bit of a fraught process. Would rather avoid if possible.)

     

    In general I'm getting great performance inside Avid, everything works great and have had no problems inside the software. 

    The major issue I'm coming up against happens if tabbing between other software, and then going back into Avid. For example, going into Safari for a few minutes and then returning to the Media Composer window. On doing so, generally the system will hang for far longer than is normal with the spinning beach ball waiting for Avid to "wake up". Sometimes after a long wait the software will function. On other occasions, it will cause Avid to crash making a "force quit" required. And I have just had an experience where the crash caused by going back into Avid was so bad the whole system locked and I had to force a restart.

    The strange this is, the problem doesn't happen every time - it appears to be random. But when it occurs, it's a serious issue and needs resolving. I have even tried using another browser alternative to Safari but to no avail. 

    I saw on another thread someone discussed changing the Video Memory settings in the Media Cache window. I took a look and saw that by default this was at the "low" level of 2GB. I then tried setting it to what is advised as being "high" (in my case 22GB). After this change is when I eventually got the problem that tabbing back into Avid caused the whole system to freeze entirely so I have now set it a lower allocation of 10GB.

    Does anyone have any advice on this? I am happy to downgrade to an earlier version of Media Composer if this is a known issue with the latest version I am currently running. As discussed above, downgrading to an earlier version of OS X is a little more difficult.

16. High alcohol wines and aging

    We opened a Clos st Jean CDP 2016 yesterday and it was the most alcoholic wine I may have ever tasted. Kind of bummed we have 3 more of these.

    My CT Review:
    In the mountains of Colorado, they have a party rig called a shot-ski (pronounces “shotsky”) where they have a ski with holes in it that they place shot glasses. This wine would be a good choice for said shot glasses given the amount of alcohol it has.
    16% ABV and you feel it as it goes down. Maybe things will get better as it ages or maybe it’s for people who enjoy rubbing alcohol smells on the nose and punch to the throat on the pallet.

    The above is largely hyperbole. TL;DR The wine is too alcoholic at this point. Not for me.

    is this a style that I just don’t appreciate but others do?
    what happens to the burn as the wine ages? The nose? Right now it’s dominated by the alcohol.

17. 2013 equinox questions

    i have the 2013 ecotec 2.4 lae engine. and as you know they burn oil like a sub. well, i tore it down put in new cast rings and rod bearings plus seals. plus i added a normal pvc system. one thing i also did that i may have to take away is i cleaned out the pvc that sets on the intake at the head. i drilled it then next size larger. now i see that just having this factory system working might be the oil burning issue. plus i read that the timing chain tensioner may leak as well becaue some have a bad design.

    so my questions. because most people do not like the factory pvc system as they claim it is the reason for most of the oil use and i installed a normal system with the pvc on the oil fill cap and i ran it into the intake down by the starter. should i plug the factory pvc circuit as most seem to think that system sucked the oil?

    i put in the sealed power economy rings because they are the cast iron type and what i'm hoping after they break in as they will have a bit more resistance to oil use. i have had good luck with that type of ring in the past but this is the first time i used them on the ecotec?

    last if the timing chain tensioner is leaking past the parker o-ring and i have to take that one out. i have the old tensioner but i do not want to pull the valve cover if i can help it. so can i take the old tensioner that was not leaking and trip it and just put that in and have it go up against the timing chain tensioner guide and have the spring just collapse as it is tightened and then after it starts the oil pressure will just put whatever tension on the guide as needed?

    and one last question. if all this fails to stop the oil use. can i put a cobalt ecotec 2.2 or 2.4 engine in the 2013 equinox and use the lea head and valve cover so that i can use the high-pressure fuel pump and the vvt system? i;m thinking the alt and a/c will bolt up the cobalt ecotec and the exhaust should also bolt up. most likely the water pump is the same and may have to get a longer radiator hose to reach the t/s? so would the cobalt engine bolt to the auto trans and the flex plat couple to the torque converter? and the cat bolt up the cobalt exhaust manifold?

    i ask because i had the 2006 cobalt i'm sure that was an ecotec engine and it ran perfect and did not use a drop of oil. so if i can put one of those ecotec in it the equinox body is in great shape and would be worth changing out the engine.
